WV at Gettysburg
Not all of my stories will take place in West Virginia. I love history and look forward to sharing some small tidbits from time to time. I originally posted this on facebook on July 3 of this year. This monument to the 7th West Virginia Volunteers is southeast of Gettysburg on East Cemetery Hill. I find it fascinating that on June 20, 1863 West Virginia became an independent state, and less than two weeks later we were engaged in one of the most historical battles in American history, the Battle of Gettysburg. West Virginia provided the Union Army two cavalry and one infantry regiments and a battery of artillery, around 790 men in total. Not bad for being just 2 weeks old at the time.
